At My Annapolis Office, we get the great opportunity to highlight one of our valued members each month. This month we are highlighting Lisa Maholchic of Windward Therapy, LLC. We love getting to know our members professionally and personally, and we hope you do too! To learn more about Lisa and her passionate work with psychotherapy, continue reading below.
Tell us about your company and what you do?
Windward Therapy is a sole proprietorship offering outpatient psychotherapy services. I provide therapy for individuals, families and couples. I use a person-centered therapy approach and work primarily with adolescents and adults.
How did you get started in your industry?
I have always had a passion for learning about and supporting people. After working for a non-profit that focused on community development and creating youth-adult partnerships on a macro level, I learned that my preference was to connect with people on a personal level. This led me to apply to the University of Maryland’s School of Social Work and earn my MSW. After working for social services, a treatment-level foster care agency, and a mental health clinic, I decided to put all of my focus and energy into what I am most passionate about. I opened Windward to work with and assist people in identifying and managing the symptoms that get in the way of their happiness and overall well-being.
What is something about your business that most people do not know?
I think sailing is a lot like therapy. You can’t change the wind. You need to understand it and adjust the sails to move forward. An important part of therapy is accepting the things that are out of your control and shifting your focus, perspective, or behavior in order to move forward. That’s where I came up with the name, Windward.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I see it growing, both in size and services offered.
Tell me about yourself?
I grew up in South Jersey and then moved to Annapolis after marrying my husband. We have 2 children and a giant German Shepherd. I’m happy to do anything that involves hanging out with my family and friends, especially if it’s outside… boat, beach, mountains, or just the front porch.
Other than work, what are you passionate about?
Friendships.
What is your favorite place to eat in Annapolis? Favorite dish there?
Probably a crabcake from Boatyard!
Why did you choose My Annapolis Office and how has working here helped your business?
I chose My Annapolis Office because I needed a temporary office while beginning to transition from virtual sessions to in-person. It has helped tremendously because it meets all of my needs as well as my budget.
