Each month at My Annapolis Office, we have the opportunity to highlight one of our valued members. This month we invite you to meet Doug and Jack of JLK Group. We hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as we have!
Tell us about your company and what you do?
JLK Group is a family-owned independent insurance agency dedicated to serving the needs of businesses, professionals, and families throughout the Mid-Atlantic. We partner with the highest quality carriers and are leaders in protecting dentists and oral surgeons. Our mission is to provide a full range of comprehensive insurance and financial services combined with customer care that is second to none.
How did you get started in your industry?
Our Grandfather and our dad were both in the insurance industry, so we have been around it our whole lives. My brother, Jack, started working for our father’s company where he learned the ins and outs of insurance first-hand. After doing that for years, Jack decided to start his own independent insurance agency, with the primary focus of putting the client first, resulting in JLK Group. I have been working with my brother since the beginning and have helped lay the foundation for our business. We have grown JLK Group into something very special and are excited to now have roots in Annapolis.
What is something about your business that most people do not know?
My brother Jack, and I are business partners together but our wives, Lisa and Emily, also work for us. It’s truly a “family-owned” business.
Other than work, what are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my family. My wife and I have a 6-year-old girl, a 3-year-old son, and twin girls who will be 2 next month. We love raising them to be curious about the world and teaching them about gardening, cooking, and being active.
What types of activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?
My four young kids take up a lot of my free time but I have enjoyed sharing my passions with them as a family. We love spending time outside, bike-riding, fishing and boating, skiing, and grilling with friends and family.
What is your favorite place to eat in Annapolis? Favorite dish there?
Crunchy Ebi Roll from Joss Sushi or an “Almost Chicago Dog” from Pips.
Why did you choose My Annapolis Office and how has working here helped your business?
My wife, who happens to also be our Marketing Coordinator, grew up in Annapolis. She has very strong ties in the community here and we have raised our family just outside of Annapolis for the last 6 years. We see a big opportunity to tap into those connections, as well as to share our love of safeguarding businesses and families with a second location in Annapolis. We look forward to growing our business here.
