Meet Chris Winans of Fidelis Tax and Accounting
As Benjamin Franklin wisely noted, “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” That rings true today, which is why it’s so valuable to sit down with a trusted tax accountant in Annapolis. Recently, we connected with Chris Winans of Fidelis Tax and Accounting to learn more about how he got started and why he chose My Annapolis Office to grow his practice.
About Fidelis Tax and Accounting
Fidelis Tax and Accounting is a full-service firm offering proactive tax preparation services in Annapolis. We help individuals and businesses across the country with customized consulting and tax services in Annapolis, including accounting and payroll support. Our team — made up of CPAs, Enrolled Agents, bookkeepers, and an administrative assistant — is growing and committed to providing outstanding results. It’s no surprise Fidelis Tax and Accounting reviews often highlight our proactive approach.
How Did You Get Started in the Industry?
I founded Fidelis Tax & Accounting in 2016 after transitioning from a career in law enforcement as a Maryland State Trooper. My father-in-law introduced me to the financial industry, and I started out in financial planning before moving fully into tax planning and tax preparation in Annapolis.
We recognized the need for a firm that focuses on proactive planning rather than reactive filing. Our approach helps clients benefit from current-year tax strategies — whether they need personal tax preparation in Annapolis or business tax preparation in Annapolis.
A Proactive Tax Advisor in Annapolis
Unlike the traditional model where you meet with an accountant after the year has ended, our business model at Fidelis Tax and Accounting puts planning first. We sit down with clients year-round to find tax-saving opportunities. This makes our tax preparation in Annapolis approach stand out.
Tax Changes and Tips
The payroll withholding tables changed in 2018 and caught many people by surprise. Here are a few things our clients — individuals or businesses — should consider:
- Check that your payroll withholdings are accurate.
- Contribute to your retirement plan or IRA.
- For students, check if you qualify for the Lifetime Learning or American Opportunity Tax Credits.
- For businesses, ask about home office deductions and other ways to offset taxable income.
- Solo 401(k) or self-employed health insurance? Ensure you’re deducting all eligible expenses.
Our mission is to help with all your tax services in Annapolis, so you can maximize savings and plan ahead. If you need help with your taxes, you can contact us through our website.
